Chloë Tolhurst: Clinical Psychologist

Chloë is taking new bookings for clients who have an interest in EMDR as a therapy approach.

I am a Clinical Psychologist at Inspired Psychology with full registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society, a fellow of the APS Clinical College and can provide clinical supervision as a Board Approved Supervisor.

I have experience working with adults affected by many kinds of mental health and life challenges which has inspired a keen interest in the capacity of humans to grow and adapt. I have worked in a variety of Government, NGO, and private practice settings as a psychologist. I believe that a supportive therapeutic setting allows people space to learn and grow from their challenges and to nurture their potential. I aim to bring warmth, empathy, creativity and curiosity to therapy sessions and to collaborate with my clients to implement practical skills for change.

I am experienced in the therapy approaches of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and the Maastricht Approach for Hearing Voices. As a Level 1 Applied Mindfulness Practitioner this forms a strong basis for sessions to explore how mindfulness skills can enhance self-awareness, self-compassion and hope for the future.

I am also an Accredited Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) Practitioner.  EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that uses dual attention skills to activate both sides of the brain to heal difficult experiences and symptoms. It can help with PTSD, anxiety, and depression and other diagnoses. Using this framework, I work with clients to build positive coping strategies and put ‘stuck’ experiences or symptoms in the past. It often helps with treatment planning to book the first few sessions for 90mins and sessions are usually weekly depending on availability. For those interested in learning more about EMDR, www.emdraa.org.au has some useful information about this treatment option.

I am providing treatment support to people who experience:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression
  • Adjustment to life stage changes and stressors
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Complex Trauma
  • Perfectionism
  • Grief
